This scene wrecked me.  You know he was thinking he was betraying Grace’s memory by standing there.  But if he didn’t do it they couldn’t preserve the history, and maybe Grace’s life would have been even more difficult.  I keep wondering about the danger they would have been in if Grace had been with him in that situation, being an interracial marriage.
